The much anticipated Thos. H. Law Collection of English Gold Coins sold Tuesday night. August 13, 2013, at the ANA World's of Money, realizing prices well beyond pre-sale expectations. The 459 lots offered, which included many extreme rarities that had been off the market for decades, were met with enthusiasm from the moment the 140-page catalog, boasting state of the art imagery and historical biographies of all English monarchs from Edward III to Elizabeth II, came off the presses. The session realized $5,016,351 (including the buyer's premium), double the high estimates for the entire sale.

Stacks Bowers Galleries conducted the Official Auction of the August 2013 ANA Worlds Fair of Money from August 11-16 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois. Fourteen live auction sessions and two Internet-only sessions brought the total sales to a staggering $46,483,309. Some of the most famous names in numismatics were represented in this sale, with pieces from the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, the Thos. H. Law Collection, the Richard Jewell Collection, the Bentley Shores Collection, the Dr. Edward and Joanne Dauer Collection of Silver Certificates, the Demarete Collection, and others, all offered throughout this amazing event.

U.S. Paper Currency Sessions Draw Superb Results in the Stacks Bowers Galleries Official Auction of the ANA Worlds Fair of Money

For the third straight year, Stacks Bowers Galleries paper currency sessions at the Official Auction of the ANA Worlds Fair of Money drew rave reviews from collectors and dealers who bid with enthusiasm and often paid record prices for rare and significant notes in all genres. Four currency sessions commencing with the Sunday, August 11, pre-sale and ending with the main United States session on Thursday evening realized a total of $8,691,039. Bracketed in between the two United States sessions were the Stacks Bowers and Ponterio world currency session and the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection Part XXII featuring Colonial, Continental, Obsolete and Fractional Currency notes. In addition to the five privately placed notes, more than 80 Silver Certificates will be placed in Stacks Bowers Galleries Official Auction of the ANA Worlds Fair of Money, which will take place in Chicago, Ill., August 9-18. The entire collection of over 85 large-size Silver Certificates is the finest ever formed, valued in the high seven figures, and represents the largest private transaction in the history of paper money collecting. Stack’s Bowers Galleries Sells Millions in New Orleans

The collection of Dr. Dexter C. Seymour, whose research on Georgia territorial gold coinage revolutionized the way todays collectors view Templeton Reid, featured a number of notable coins, including the extremely rare and one of the finest known 1830 Templeton Reid $2.50. Housed in an AU-58 PCGS Secure holder, this amazing coin sold for a hefty $329,000 when it crossed the block.
