Our October Hong Kong sale features a
multitude of exciting offerings of Chinese paper money, one of which is this uncompleted
People’s Bank of China P-839 1949 200 Yuan note, lot 50104. This 200 Yuan note
is graded by PCGS Banknote as About Uncirculated 55. The note displays
virtually the same printing on the obverse as the production note, minus the
block number, serial numbers and stamps. However, the reverse of the note is
drastically different from the note that eventually entered production. The
"200" counters are found at left, right and center, and a date is within
a rectangle at bottom on the reverse. Detailed lathe work is found throughout
the design on the reverse. This note is scarcely encountered, and uncompleted
notes are always popular among PRC collectors. We expect to see spirited
bidding on this lot.
