Though the live sessions of the Stack’s Bowers August 2016 ANA World’s
Fair of Money Auction are about to close, there are still a multitude of
numismatic opportunities to be found in the Internet Only Session. A large
variety of ancient and world coins are featured, with this highlight piece
found in the Internet Session D, starting Monday August 15th at 9:00 AM PDT. A
plethora of hidden treasures can be found in the Internet session, so be sure

This coin, struck in 1791 and a one-year type, features the draped bust of
the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Ferdinando III. He ruled until he was ousted by the
Napoleonic regime, though nine years earlier he was the first monarch to
formally recognize the new French First Republic. After Napoleon’s ousting, Ferdinand
was reestablished as the Grand Duke of Tuscany and ruled for another decade
until he passed away in 1824. The reverse design features the Grand Duke’s coat
of arms, a crowned ovoid shield with the marshaled arms of the Habsburg,
Babenberg and Lorraine families. The Order of the Golden Fleece appears around
the shield as well. This attractive piece features a crisp strike from dies
that only show the lightest wear and lovely medium cabinet toning with strong
underlying luster. Golden blue hues can be noted when turned in the light and
there are a few flecks of original untoned lustrous surfaces around the more
bold lettering.
