Since 1973, the location of this 1825/4/1 Capped Head half eagle Proof has been unknown to most numismatists. Previously sold in the Parmelee, Eliasberg, and King Farouk collections, this coin’s whereabouts became a mystery that the numismatic community nearly forgot. The Dannreuther guide book provided an accurate provenance for a privately owned Proof 1825/4/1 half eagle, but there was never an actual coin assigned to that pedigree. The National Numismatic Collection’s coin did not fit the description, as it was a single sided Proof. The Bass Collection’s coin was also a single sided Proof. But, after half a century, the Dannreuther guide book’s coin has resurfaced. We recently had this coin certified by PCGS, who assigned it a grade of Proof-67 Cameo. CAC also added their approval. This is a rare opportunity to own an incredibly rare coin. Don’t let the chance pass without bidding!
