Stack’s Bowers Galleries has now posted the March 2021 Las Vegas Showcase Auction on stacksbowers.com. This auction consists of both U.S. Coins and U.S. Currency. Many items will reach the $100,000 mark, with two coin expected to exceed $1,000,000.
U.S. Coins to Watch:
- Lot 4149 – 1822 Capped Head Left Half Eagle. BD-1. Rarity-8. AU-50 (PCGS). The only specimen held in private hands. This will mark the third time in 115 years that this specific coin has traded hands. The Coins in Motion video of this 1822 Half Eagle gives bidders a great idea of how it looks in hand.
- Lot 4081 – 1797 Draped Bust Half Dollar. Small Eagle. O-101a, T-1. Rarity-4+. 15 Stars. MS-66 (PCGS). CAC. This coin comes to us from the D. Brent Pogue Collection and is the finest known. At PCGS, there are just five examples that have received a Mint State designation.
- Lot 4009 – 1793 Liberty Cap Cent. S-14. Rarity-5. AU-53+ (PCGS). Another rarity from the D. Brent Pogue Collection, this 1793 Liberty Cap Cent was part of the Charles Jay Collection, the Herman Halpern Collection, and the R.E. “Ted” Naftzger, Jr. Collection.
U.S. Currency to Watch:
- Lot 3166 – Fr. 167a. 1863 $100 Legal Tender Note. PCGS Banknote Choice Uncirculated 63. This Spread Eagle comes to us from the Karelian Collection and is estimated at $300,000 – $400,000. This design type is highly sought after by advanced collectors, and this piece would be a monumental addition to any collection. - Lot 3247 – Fr. 314. 1886 $20 Silver Certificate. PCGS Banknote Choice Uncirculated 64. This popular Diamond Back note is top pop in the census, making it all the more desirable for collectors to add to their collection. Estimated at $80,000 to $120,000, this note will be a key highlight of the sale.
- Lot 3329 – Fr. 1179. 1905 $20 Gold Certificate. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ. The Technicolors are always a fan-favorite. We are sure that this Uncirculated note will attract a lot of bids.
