A desirable dual-dated 1776-1976 Bicentennial Eisenhower dollar with Type I reverse lettering takes front stage center in our iAuction sale #3512. Bicentennial Ike dollars were struck in 1975 and 1976, though they all bear the dual date 1776-1976 – no Eisenhower dollars were struck bearing the date 1975. The reverse lettering on this lustrous pale golden-gray Gem is thick and square in appearance, but this was changed in 1975 during the first production of the Bicentennial pieces. The much more common Type II reverse of the date has tall and delicate lettering, and its mintage was the largest among all dates in the Ike dollar series. The rare Type I Ike dollar in the current sale is tied for finest PCGS-certified example of the issue. With the recent and rapid awakening of 20th century coinage in the marketplace, we expect more than one advanced collector will be interested in this lot when it comes up for bids.
