Our October 2020 Hong Kong auction features
a multitude of exciting offerings of Chinese paper money, one of which is this
P-A75P 1906 1 Dollar Ta-Ching Government Bank note, lot
50026. PMG lists this example as the sole note encapsulated by their
service for the pick variety, making it Pop 1/None Finer. The original printed
issued place of "Kalgan" has been overprinted with a thin red line,
with "Yunnan" printed below it in red ink. The face of the note
displays an ornate border design in dark blue ink, along with arms at top of
above center, also in dark blue ink. The reverse displays an ornate design at
center in light purple ink, with an intricate green border design. There are
red overprints on the reverse as well. Just two 10 Dollar notes from this
branch have surfaced in auctions, however, not a single One Dollar notes has
appeared in public auctions. We expect to see spirited bidding on this scarce note
as pieces of this caliber are tightly held. It may be some time before this
note trades hands again.
