The Stack’s Bowers Galleries official US Currency Auction
of the ANA World’s Fair of Money is now online and open for bidding at www.stacksbowers.com.
This auction features a number of exciting new-to-the-market discoveries as
well as some well-known ultra-rarities.
Among those rarities, we are pleased to offer the only
privately held Fr.1202a 1882 “Triple Signature” $100 Gold Certificate. This
incredible rarity has been off of the market for five years, and during that
time the market for ultra-rarities has matured. The Joel R. Anderson example of
the Fr.345c 1880 $500 Silver Certificate of Deposit will once again be
presented,. A remarkable high-grade Fr.151 1869 $50 “Rainbow” Legal Tender Note
provides another highlight among large size type notes.
Fans of ultra-high denomination notes will be treated to
a nice lineup of $5000 and $10,000 Federal Reserve Notes that includes a Very
Choice New 1934 $10,000 note from the famed Binion Hoard. Also offered is a
unique and newly discovered 1928 $5000 from the Cleveland Federal Reserve
District.
National Currency rarities abound in this ANA auction. A
fresh 1875 $5 from the First National Bank of Fort Benton, Montana Territory
should appeal to a multitude of collectors. This About Uncirculated note is the
finest graded territorial known on the state. Peach State collectors will be
excited by a serial number 1 sheet of 1929 $10s from the rare National Bank of
Tifton, Georgia. We are also thrilled to offer a serial number 1 Third Charter
$100 Red Seal, our second this year. This example, from the Merchants National
Bank of Portland, Oregon, has been off of the market for decades and is sure to
garner considerable interest. A newly discovered Serial Number 1 Series of 1902
Red Seal on the First National Bank of Santa Maria, California will also be
found within the pages of this catalog. In addition, collectors will find notes
from advanced Florida and New York collections that comprise many desirable
selections.
Lastly, the Caine Collection of Fractional Currency is a
magnificent cabinet that includes many fascinating error notes as well as
courtesy autographed examples and uncut sheets. Many of the pieces in the
collection trace their pedigrees to legendary collectors such as F.C.C. Boyd
and John J. Ford, Jr.
