While our format for this video will be slightly different, the content is still incredible. Stack’s Bowers Galleries has the pleasure of selling a 30.86 Troy Ounce native gold nugget in the Spring 2022 Showcase Auction. This piece measures 97.00 mm x 69.5 mm x 55.3 mm and is among the largest gold specimens that we have handled. We had the gold laboratory analyzed with XRF testing to show us the purity of the gold. The metal is 95.38% fine gold, and the specific gravity suggests that the weight of the actual metal is 26.78 Troy Ounces. The actual gold weight is around 25.54 Troy Ounces.
The closest piece that we can compare this specimen to is an example we sold in the August 2008 Marshall Collection. That piece weighed over 20 Troy Ounces and sold for $52,000. At that time, the gold spot price was $850 per ounce. We expect this piece to exceed the previous result by a wide margin.
Coins in Motion seeks to enable collectors, bidders, and consignors to accurately appreciate how Stack’s Bowers Galleries coins look in hand. Ultra-high resolution animations depict how luster moves over the coin’s surfaces, while the rotating motion allows for any possible imperfections to be revealed.
