In our Fall 2022 Hong Kong Auction, we will be featuring a stunning prize from the Irving Goodman Collection: a Cambodian white metal 3 Tical Pattern from 1847. Graded by NGC as MS-63, this rarely-offered piece was produced at the Birmingham Mint through a contract that King Ang Duong had with W. P. Hammond and Company. King Ang Duong sought to westernize Cambodia and one of his first steps was to create machine struck coinage and set up modern minting equipment within the Cambodian border. The coins were struck and the minting machines were supplied, but no one in Cambodia had the technical knowledge to set it up. Therefore, the new minting machines sat unused until they were later converted to hand presses. Visit www.stacksbowers.com to view all upcoming lots in our auctions.
