Making Change with Physical Bitcoin

We are just two weeks away from the first session of live bidding in our Bitcoin Halving Sale. We’ve already seen strong pre-sale bidding as collectors get familiar with the auction lots and begin to enter “place-holder” bids in preparation for the main event. As a reminder, Crypto Part 1 will go live on March 28 and Crypto Part 2 will take place on the following Tuesday, April 2.

As with any of our physical crypto auctions, the high denomination and high value coins inevitably attract the most attention and the most publicity. However,  I wanted to take a moment this week to spotlight a few of the lower denominations that offer greater levels of accessibility (and sometimes even more rarity), than their 1 Bitcoin and 5 Bitcoin counterparts. It may be surprising, but this category is replete with rarities at $500 and $1,000 price points, making these items accessible to virtually every collector.

The Casascius 1 BTC is unarguably the most recognized physical bitcoin. However, the 0.5 Bitcoin from that series is actually much more scarce and is seldom offered publicly. We are proud to be featuring an exceptional Casascius 0.5 Bitcoin in our Halving Sale, an example from the collection of famed Bitcoin entrepreneur Jimmy Song.

A similar case can be made for the Lealana series, where the silver 1 BTC reigns supreme. In 2022 we sold an example for $108,000, still the record holder for the most valuable 1 BTC coin sold of any type or variety. However, the fractional 0.1 BTC, 0.25 BTC, and 0.5 BTC coins grant access to this iconic series at a much more approachable level. There are even smaller 0.01 BTC Lealana coins in the sale which represent the lowest denomination issued by Lealana. Several of these Lealana fractionals are being presented from the Mindtrip Collection, formed by one of this categories’ earliest enthusiasts.

Among more modern series, the Satori 0.001 BTC “Poker Chip” is undoubtedly the most recognizable fractional and is a great way to dip your toes into this category. In addition to individual examples, our sale features an original 25-coin roll which is the first of the kind to be presented in a live auction. Other fractional “Poker Chips” from the BTCC1HoDLCLUB, and Mantis Cryptos series represent fun ways to start building your collection of Physical Bitcoins.

These are just some of the fractional denominations included in our Bitcoin Halving Sale, and I encourage you to explore the two auction sessions to discover more exiting and accessible treasures. As always, you can reach me at JMcCartney@StacksBowers.com with any questions or if you would like to discuss a gameplan for building or selling your physical bitcoin collection.
