Our January 2022 NYINC is shaping up to be another fantastic sale, with rarities from a multitude of countries. One such treasure is an Iceland P-25 1928 (ND 1929) 50 Kronur graded Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ by PMG.
This is a showstopper of a note, offered in an incredible Gem grade. Just three examples of this Pick number are available to collectors in PMG holders: this Gem and two VF 30 notes, making this note the PMG’s finest graded by a country mile. A side-facing portrait of King Christian X of Denmark is at left. Christian X ruled Denmark from May 14, 1929, to April 20, 1947, and Iceland up until the founding of the Republic of Iceland in June 1944, when Iceland voted to sever all ties with the King of Denmark. The reverse of the note depicts a seated Viking woman at center, with shield and sword in hand. The designs at left and right of the primary design on the reverse look as if they were pulled directly from a Viking Longhouse. This Gem offers bright paper with boardwalk margins, and fully original paper. For those Icelandic and Danish collectors seeking the finest available material, this top pop 50 Kronur is sure to draw attention. We sold the 1927 100 Kronur in PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ in our April 2021 Hong Kong sale for $27,600, and we expect this Gem to fetch a similar figure. PMG Pop 1/None Finer.
