Lot 82073 of our upcoming
April 6th Hong Kong auction is a stunning Russo-Asiatic Banknote from the
Harbin Branch. This 1910 100 Dollar note catalogs as Pick S466 and S/M#O5-. It
is graded by PCGS Banknote Grading as PCGSBG Choice New 64 OPQ due to its
optimum paper quality and nice margins.
We have handled this note
in the past, but have not seen it in the last few years. It is a piece of
extreme beauty, printed by Bradbury Wilkinson & Co. The color is splendid
with bold inks and borders consisting of large multi-colored guilloches. The
note is replete with geometric features and displays opposing dragons on either
side of a central dragon. The Verso design rivals the face in terms of color
with a bank building vignette between facing dragons with pearl of wisdom
above. Bold signatures and a well embossed serial number enhance the appeal.
The circulation is very minor with only a few corner tip folds visible through
the encapsulation surface. This item carries an estimate of $5,000 to $6,000
but could potentially bring much more once the hammer falls.
This note will be offered
in Session C of our April Hong Kong Auction, Wednesday April 6, 2016, at 1:00
PM HKT. To view lots and bid, visit www.stacksbowers.com.
