The U.S. portion of the auction features highlights from several genres including lot #21256, an MD-40 Maryland January 1, 1767 $2/9 Colonial graded Choice Uncirculated 63 by PMG that carries an estimate of $300-$500. Among Confederate Currency, lot # 21278 is a PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ T-44 1861 $1 “Lucy Pickens” note, one of the finest graded and estimated $500 to $700. Lot #21289 features a Fr. 224 1896 $1 “Educational” Silver Certificate graded Very Fine 30 PPQ by PCGS and carries an estimate of $600-$800. A handsome Fr. 282 1923 $5 Silver Certificate graded Very Fine 25 by PMG is found in lot #21296 and is estimated at $1,500-$2,000.
A scarce Fr. 214 1879 $10 Refunding Certificate is offered in lot #21301. This mid-grade “Middle of the Book” design type is graded PCGS Very Fine 30 Apparent, Edge Splits, Minor Stains, and is estimated $5,000-$7,000.
In World Currency, lot #20184 features a Pick 20s Bank of Rhodesia and Nyasaland (1956-61) 10 Shillings Specimen note, graded About Uncirculated 53 Net, Previously Mounted, Paper Pull, and is expected to bring $700-$900. Lot #20188 is a South African Natal Bank Limited (1906) 1 Pound Color Trial Specimen, Pick 466s. This colorful note is graded by PCGS as Choice About New 58 Apparent, Minor Mounting Remnants on Face, and is estimated to sell for $900-$1,200.
