Stack’s Bowers Galleries is offering an incredible Essay of an unadopted
Egyptian banknote in our August ANA auction. The Artist’s Rendition was entirely
done by hand with the intention to use it for the National Bank of Egypt. The
note represents the 1 Pound denomination and features a soldier holding his gun
at left. The right shows ships possibly on the Nile, or the Gulf of Suez, hand
cut and attached on top. The color scheme on the face is deep bold blue, with
yellow hues through the background. The vignettes are etched in burgundy and
pink.
The reverse shows a beautiful hand drawn floral pattern throughout the
border and background in yellow and white. The guilloche at center is in deep
green with beautiful "1 L. E." protectors on each side with NATIONAL
BANK OF EGYPT arched on top and ONE EGYPTIAN POUNDS arched below. This unlisted
design is a significant offering, a piece that has been privately held for
quite some time. Now it’s freshly graded and ready for a new home in a very
advanced collection.
