Did you know Stack’s
Bowers Galleries is selling Part III of the magnificent Twin Leaf Collection of
Large Cents in our upcoming November 2016 Baltimore auction?
The Twin Leaf Collection
stands tall among the greatest cabinets of Middle and Late Date large cents
ever formed. At its peak of completion, it was the finest collection of this
specialty. We were honored to have been selected to sell this magnificent
holding in our July 2015 Baltimore sale where it was a highlight of the Whitman
Coin & Collectibles Summer Expo. It included nearly every Newcomb number,
many Condition Census pieces, and more than 50 Proofs from 1817 to 1857 – an
unparalleled selection of these rarities that are seldom included in even the
finest collections. It also included the extremely rare patterns of 1868,
in nickel and copper.
The Twin Leaf Collection
was much larger than one sale, however! The collector acquired not only
particularly fine specimens of each Newcomb number, but also focused on die
states, resulting
in a healthy number of duplicates throughout the Newcomb series, including
several of the rare Proofs.
As with the July 2015 and
March 2016 sale, these duplicates comprised many important coins from great
collections, and a fine selection of them will highlight our official auction
of the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Expo in Baltimore this November.
