The Stack’s Bowers Galleries’ Official Currency Auction of
the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Spring Expo will feature remarkable
Confederate Currency from the collection of SBG founder Q. David Bowers.
All of the rare types are represented in the collection
including the “Big Six” notes; Types 1 through 4 as well as types 27 and 35. Additionally
popular 1861 notes from the Southern Bank Note Company series will be offered.
The Montgomery series notes are all in grades of Very Fine or
above. The T-1
1861 $1000 is graded Choice Very Fine 35 Net “Cancelled, Cancellation
Repairs” and carries a pre-auction estimate of $25,000-$35,000. A stunning T-2
1861 $500 is beautifully colored and graded Very Fine 30 with a comment for
“Minor Restoration. That note is estimated to sell for $20,000-$30,000.
A well printed T-27
1861 $10 from the collection is graded Very Fine 25 Apparent “Minor
Restorations” and is estimated to sell for $8000-$12,000 while a sharply
detailed T-35
“Indian Princess” 1861 $5 is graded Fine 12 by PMG with comments for
“Cancellation Repairs, Tape” on the back of the holder. That note is also
estimated at $8000-$12,000.
