Coin Resource Center Includes Entry on Denver Mint

Stack’s Bowers Galleries’ Coin Resource includes entries on U.S. Mint facilities; this week we’ll be taking a quick look at the entry on the Denver facility. Initially established as an Assay Office in 1862, construction of a full Mint facility began in 1897 and was completed in 1904. Coinage operations commenced in 1906, with Barber half dollars (the first coins struck) inaugurating the facility’s unbroken chain of contributions to U.S. coinage. In 2000, the Denver Mint produced 15.4 billion coins, a record for any Mint facility, according to the U.S. Mint’s website.

The CRC entry on the Denver Mint includes a brief overview of the facility’s evolution from the Civil War era to the present along with a small gallery of images. Some notable issues are also highlighted.

The CRC’s Guide to United States Mints includes entries on all facilities that have operated in the United States since 1792.
