This past week the
Stack’s Bowers team attended the Central States Numismatic Society
Convention. Overall, activity was mixed in our opinion, due to the varied
quality of the material being offered. However, it followed the patterns that
we have seen recently – great coins are bringing outstanding prices and attract
tremendous interest, good coins are bringing strong prices, and average to
below average coins are bringing average prices. This is nothing new and
when we view the market through this lens, we were quite pleased with our
activity at the show and we remain enthusiastic about the strength of the
market.
On the auction side of
our business, activity was brisk as we gathered several consignments for our
Summer Baltimore Auction as well as our ANA World’s Fair of Money
Auction. Consignors are especially excited about our upcoming ANA
auction, which harnesses the excitement of one of the biggest auctions of the
year with one of the best shows of the year. Consignments already total over
$10 million, and are highlighted by the Lord St. Oswald-Norweb 1794 Flowing
Hair Silver Dollar we announced two weeks ago. We are welcoming
consignments of U.S. coins, world and ancient coins, and U.S. and world
currency until our consignment deadline of June 5th. Space is
limited.
All the best,
Brian Kendrella
