Welcome to our August 2017 U.S. Currency Auction With the American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money

It’s unfathomable that it
has been a year since our last ANA World’s Fair of Money sale! With over 825
U.S. currency lots offered, the 2017 sale will rival last year’s in terms of
exciting material, and will encompass the spectrum of areas of interest for
American bank notes.

This catalog will
showcase an incredible collection of Confederate paper money: The Cleo
Collection of Confederate Currency. Our consignor began building this
collection over 50 years ago. The collection’s core typeset includes 72
handpicked notes that are sure to be missing from even some of the most
advanced Confederate collections. Some of these pieces are finest graded,
including the T-27 in PMG 30 (the finest PMG has seen), and a T-32 $5 in a PMG
AU 50 holder.

As always, we present a
very strong showing of National Bank Notes. One of our most important
highlights of this sale is an 1882 $10 Brown Back Serial Number 1 from
Deadwood, South Dakota. This note came to us from a Pennsylvania estate,
accompanied by a group of other lightly circulated but nondescript large size
notes. It has taken 123 years for this banknote to surface for bidding to the
public, and it will likely be decades more until a similarly special Deadwood
piece trades hands again. Other important National Bank Notes we are offering
include a 1902 $10 Serial Number 1 Red Seal from Bellingham, Washington as well
as a 1902 $10 Red Seal from Spearfish, South Dakota.

Our 2017 World’s Fair of
Money U.S. currency sale is also highlighted by an important offering of high
denomination small size notes. Perhaps one of the most valuable notes in our
sale is a fully original 1928 Atlanta $5000. PCGS has only graded six pieces
for the catalog number, and this note is the second finest, with the best being
a 45PPQ. This Fr.2220-F represents a much more challenging year to find than
its 1934 counterpart. Also in this section, a Philadelphia Finest Known
Fr.2200-C. 1928 $500 Federal Reserve Note is offered.

Other notable pieces
include a Confederate $1000 1861 T-1 in PMG EF 40, an 1869 $20 Rainbow note,
and an 1882 $50 Gold Certificate. However, as is usually the case, the list of
important notes offered in the sale is too extensive for this introduction, so
please be sure to look through the entire catalog. We look forward to seeing
you in Denver and wish the best of success to all bidders and consignors!

Enjoy the paper.
