It was also the firm's first Showcase Auction of U.S. Currency since their record-setting sale in March of this year, and bidders were waiting with great anticipation.

Over $50 million in coins, paper money, and other numismatic treasures were sold in the Stack's Bowers Galleries August 2021 ANA Auction, representing the largest ANA sale in the firm's nearly 90-year history. Stack's Bowers Galleries held their first sale of the ANA's annual summer convention more than 80 years ago in 1939, and this year's sale is a significant milestone of success at this historic venue.

The sole finest 1804 Draped Bust silver dollar sold for $7.68 million in the Stack's Bowers Galleries August 2021 ANA Auction, setting a new auction record as the fifth most valuable United States coin ever sold. Offered in the firm's Rarities Night session on Tuesday, August 17, the sale of this 1804 Draped Bust dollar will be remembered as a milestone in United States numismatics.

It will showcase the historical importance of the Libertas Americana medal and will feature two original Libertas Americana medals that Benjamin Franklin received on April 4th, 1783, each bearing the earliest die state. Due to their early state, it is certain that Franklin presented them to the highest VIPs of the day. Accompanying the exhibit are astonishing artifacts not seen for more than 200 years.
Stack’s Bowers & Ponterio Announces Updated September Sale Dates and New Hong Kong CCO Venue

Fresh off Stack's Bowers & Ponterio's record-shattering April Hong Kong auction that offered over 5,000 lots of coins and banknotes and realized prices in excess of USD $35 million, the company is excited to report a continued surge in consignments for its traditional fall Hong Kong auction. Originally scheduled for September 13-16, the sale will now take place from September 27-29 to accommodate demand. The auction, still in the process of being finalized, is on track to present over 20% more items than the April event, with total lots approaching 7,000! In keeping with the new sale dates, lots will be open for bidding around the end of August.

In their Official Auction of the ANA World's Fair of Money, Stack's Bowers Galleries is proud to offer a unique Congressional Gold Medal presented to Major General, and later President, William Henry Harrison. This treasure, found in lot 5022, combines the ultimate Congressional award with the highest American office into a single relic of incomparable historical importance. It was awarded at the White House in 1825 to recognize Harrison's victory at the Battle of the Thames during the War of 1812 and was struck in a substantial 7.6 troy ounces of fine gold. Passed down through the Harrison family and held in a private collection in recent years, this marks the medal's first ever auction appearance and is sure to attract tremendous excitement from the collecting community.
