The sale will be offered across 15 sessions, beginning on Thursday, October 27 with live bidding for Part II of the Sydney F. Martin Collection and ending with the final Internet Only session on Wednesday, November 9. Presented is an exciting array of Numismatic Americana, U.S. Colonial and Federal coinage, and Physical Bitcoins and Cryptocurrency, including several significant collections that represent the pinnacle of their respective categories.
CAC-Approved 1900 Proof Set Featured in the Stack’s Bowers Galleries Winter 2022 Auction
Stacks Bowers Galleries will offer two remarkable early Proof sets, one from 1855 and one from 1900, in their November 2022 Official Auction of the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Winter Expo. The 1900 Proof set is nearly complete (missing only the Barber dime) including the gold denominations and all coins feature CAC approval. The 1855 set showcases the silver and minor denominations from the silver dollar to down to the half cent and includes several coins with CAC approval. The coins will be offered individually in consecutive lots in the firms Rarities Night session on Tuesday, November 1.

The special 2021 35th Anniversary American Eagle 1 Ounce Gold and Silver Coins realized over $4.6 million in total sales at the Stacks Bowers Galleries Summer 2022 Global Showcase Auction conducted at Griffin Studios. Presented across 700 lots in a standalone session on September 1, these 35th Anniversary coins saw fierce competition from collectors.
Proof 1825/4/1 Half Eagle Sells for Record $4.08 Million at Stack’s Bowers Galleries
The finest of three known Proof 1825/4/1 Capped Head Left half eagles sold for a record price of $4.08 million in the Stacks Bowers Galleries Summer 2022 Global Showcase Auction, nearly doubling the pre-sale high estimate. It set a new record as the most valuable pre-1834 Proof United States gold coin ever sold at auction. It also ranks as the second most valuable $5 gold coin of any format, sitting behind only the $8.4 million 1822 $5 which was also sold by Stacks Bowers Galleries.

Stacks Bowers Galleries is thrilled to present an exceptional selection of United States coins and Numismatic Americana in their Summer 2022 Global Showcase Auction. This will be remembered as a historic milestone in numismatics, highlighted by the finest known Proof 1825/4/1 half eagle offered as part of the Mocatta Collection. Graded Proof-67 Cameo (PCGS) CAC, this specimen is one of just three known and can be traced to before 1864, through the cabinets of such luminaries as Parmelee, Eliasberg and King Farouk of Egypt. It is accompanied in the Mocatta Collection by numerous other rarities including a pair of 1796 Stars and No Stars $2.50 quarter eagles, a lovely 1879 Flowing Hair $4 Stella, Wire Rim and Rolled Rim Pattern 1907 Indian $10 pieces, a Gem Proof 1887 Liberty Head $20, and many others.
