With our final Paper Money Auction of the year completed in Hong Kong, we are now gearing up for the New Year and our January NYINC Auction. Then will follow our February Rarities Auction all while collecting submissions for our huge official auction of the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Baltimore Expo in March Baltimore.
Before moving into our 2016 auction season, however, we mention a note from our December Hong Kong sale that was featured in a previous blog. Lot # 70097, the scarce $10 Chartered Bank of India, Australia & China sold for $101,575, over $75,000 more than our estimate based off of previous auction records. It’s safe to say that anyone who has doubted the explosiveness of the World Paper Money market should definitely start to get on board.
World Notes with similar potential for major prices realized can be found in our January sale. These include rare Imperial Bank of Persia notes from Iran, large size Swedish notes, an Uncirculated Irish Lady Lavery, and a 5 Pound 1927 Palestine Currency Board note. These notes and many more will be available for lot viewing (by appointment only) in our Santa Ana offices until December 18 and from December 29 to 31 and January 2-4 in our New York City gallery. The Waldorf Astoria will host the final lot viewing from January 6 to 9, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day except Saturday when the lot viewing room will close at 1:00 PM EST.
The Stack’s Bowers Galleries World Paper Money Auction will be held Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 9:00 AM at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel at 301 Park Avenue.
