Up for grabs at the Stack’s Bowers Galleries Official Currency Auction of the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Expo this November will be a 5 Pound note from Bermuda. Like any note featuring the Queen’s portrait, this bright orange example issued by the Bermuda Government is highly collectible. However, this particular note is much more than one of the more collectible notes from the British Territory.
The note was printed on October 1, 1966, during what is considered the final printing year of most of the collectible bank notes from Bermuda. This is the only variation of this note printed in 1966, as opposed to the three different types made in the 1950s. There are only six known in Uncirculated condition. In a PCGS 58 PPQ holder, we believe this note will realize anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000 in our November Auction due to its rarity. This particular example has beautiful bright white paper with orange overprints and a portrait of the Queen to the right, on the front. The back of the note has a gradient design in vibrant orange and green color, with a crest as the center motif.
