IRVINE, Calif. (February 1, 2012) – Stack’s Bowers Galleries announces that it has entered into a multi-year agreement with the Colonial Coin Collectors Club (C4) to conduct an annual auction of Colonial coinage and related material. The inaugural joint auction will take place during the Stack’s Bowers Galleries Official Auction of the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Expo in Baltimore November 12-18, 2012. At this show, C4 will have its annual convention. Stack’s Bowers is inviting consignments of Colonial coinage and related material such as Colonial currency as well as other U.S. coins and currency from now until September 24, 2012, and interested consignors are asked to call 800.458.4646 to discuss opportunities.
“The Colonial Coin Collectors Club is a non-profit organization that seeks to increase the public’s knowledge about Colonial numismatics and to promote the study of Colonial numismatics. In order to fulfill this mission, C4 has a yearly convention where they hold an auction that provides capitol for their operating budget, and it is a great pleasure for Stack’s Bowers Galleries to be able to support them in their efforts to advance the study of Colonial numismatics,” said Chris Napolitano, president of Stack’s Bowers Galleries. “The Stack’s Bowers Americana Sales are a long-standing tradition which are very popular among Americana collectors and will give a great amount of added exposure to the annual C4 convention, which is a benefit to both buyers and sellers of Colonial items.”
Stack’s Bowers will donate 100 percent of the hammer price and all commissions to the Club from a select number of lots donated by C4 members. Information about the club can be found at www.colonialcoins.org.
“We are very excited about this opportunity with Stack’s Bowers in Baltimore where our club will be exposed to many more collectors and dealers. Our co-sponsored auction will expand our reach to so many more buyers and we are looking forward to working with Stack’s Bowers for their reputation and expertise,” said Jim Rosen, president of the Colonial Coin Collectors Club. “I encourage C4 members to participate by consigning and buying in this auction in support of our organization. The more participation we have by our own members, the better the benefits will be to the club.”
About Stack’s Bowers Galleries
Stack’s Bowers Galleries, a division of Fortune 500 Company Spectrum Group International Inc., was launched in January 2011, combining the extraordinary histories of Stack’s, the oldest rare coin auction and retail company in America, with Bowers and Merena Auctions, one of the world’s pre-eminent auctioneers of rare coins and paper money. The two companies unite to share a combined legacy that spans more than 100 years, and includes the cataloging and sale of many of the most valuable collections to ever cross an auction block – the John. J. Ford, Jr. and Louis E. Eliasberg collections, the Harry W. Bass, Jr. Collection, and the Norweb Collection, to name just a few. Topping off this amazing numismatic history is the inclusion of the world record for the highest price ever realized at auction for a rare coin, the legendary 1933 St. Gaudens Double Eagle which realized an astounding $7.59 million (sold in partnership with Sotheby’s). The company is headquartered in Irvine, California, with offices in New York, New Hampshire and Hong Kong. Stack’s Bowers Galleries is the Official Auctioneer for several important numismatic conventions, including the ANA World’s Fair of Money pre-show and convention auctions, and the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Expos in Baltimore, three times yearly, and Philadelphia.
