It has been 10 years since we last offered a Superb Gem 1932 Indian eagle, confirming the rarity of this otherwise readily obtainable issue when in this extraordinary level of preservation. With an NGC census of only eight, with none finer, we expected this coin to command large bids, and it did not disappoint. On June 15, lot 2187, sold for $38,400 in the second session of the June 2022 Showcase Auction.
In 2017, the last time that an NGC MS-67 example sold, it brought $25,850, while our 2013 offering brought slightly more at $28,200. It is encouraging to see the market moving upward and the rarest of items gaining value over the years. In the coming weeks, we will kick off our August 2022 Global Showcase Auction Coins in Motion highlights. Stay tuned for some incredible coins from around the world.
Coins in Motion seeks to enable collectors, bidders, and consignors to accurately appreciate how Stack’s Bowers Galleries coins look in hand. Ultra-high resolution animations depict how luster moves over the coin’s surfaces, while the rotating motion allows for any possible imperfections to be revealed.
