We are pleased to highlight a Dominion of Canada DC-2a 1 Dollar in PMG About Uncirculated 55 EPQ (lot 20045). This example was payable at Montreal and displays the signature combination of Dickinson & Harington. Jacques Cartier is depicted at left while an octagonal design encasing a "1" counter is at right. At center is a helmeted allegorical woman with shield watching over "CANADA" on the globe while a cherub is at right. This lovely example retains fully original paper, as evidenced by PMG’s EPQ qualifier. The design details stand out in dark black ink and the underprints are forest green. The reverse of the note depicts the "Payable At" location at center showcased within an intricate dark green design. PMG Pop 1/None Finer.
Jacques Cartier was a French explorer, the first European to explore inland North America. Cartier described and mapped the Gulf of Saint Lawrence along with the shores of the river, which he claimed as a territory of France under the title "The Country of the Canadas." Cartier made three successful voyages to North America during his lifetime, with each voyage discovering more land for France’s new colony.
