In our August 5 Auction we are pleased to offer an 1889 50 Mil Reis P-62 Banco de Portugal note graded PMG Very Fine 25 in lot 30280. Featured on the note are allegorical women at left and right with a coat of arms at lower center. Green seals are seen at left and right, next to the allegorical figures. The bold penned signatures remain perfectly legible, as does the date. The reverse displays an intricate design with detailed lathe work. The denomination is spelled out in center with "50" surrounding it on all four sides. The number "50" can be counted well over 100 times on the reverse throughout the design. This note is the sole example for the Pick number to be encapsulated by PMG. It is scarce, especially so as issued, and offers attractive details for the assigned grade.
