I began working for Stack’s Bowers Galleries around five years ago, about halfway through our decade of operations in Hong Kong. For years I had been attending banknote and coin shows and auctions as a young person – gaining knowledge, building relationships, and finding interesting pieces to collect. However, even after attending over 100 shows and auctions in those years, nothing prepared me for my first experience in Hong Kong – it was a numismatic scene like none other.
This can mainly attributed to you, our esteemed clients, who have participated in our auctions as consignors and bidders over the years, helping us put together consistently spectacular auctions that fetch record prices. Time and time again, the auction room has been packed with attendees, as has the convention floor at the Hong Kong Coin Show.
Currently, our entire catalog for the May Hong Kong sale is available online and ready for bidding. The live session of the sale will take place May 4th, 2020 at 3:00 PM HKT. It contains well over 400 lots of special, exciting treasures.
Among the many rarities are notes spanning China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and even the coveted archipelago off the coast of Tanzania — Zanzibar. You’ll find Beijing Printing Company Test Notes, Ming Dynasty notes (some with exceptional provenance), and quite a few in high grades, one-of-a-kind issued pieces with coveted place names. Additionally, this sale includes the Ta-Ching Government Bank 10 Dollar note in lot 50027, the Netherlands Indies 200 Gulden in lot 50396 and many other extremely desirable pieces.
The Covid-19 pandemic has changed our plans to have a live auction in conjunction with this celebratory occasion. Thankfully, using our industry leading online and mobile app bidding platforms, supported by a team of phone bidding assistants, we are able to facilitate this sale for both bidders and consignors. We look forward to when the pandemic is behind us, we will again be able to present a live auction alongside the Hong Kong Coin Show.
Until then, it is our great pleasure to present our 10 Year Anniversary Hong Kong Auction, an event that celebrates the decade that Stack’s Bowers Galleries has spent in Asia, spreading the history and joy of collecting.
Cheers to the next 10 years!
