Welcome
friends to the Stack’s Bowers Galleries Official Currency Auction of the
Whitman Coin & Collectibles Spring Expo. This is our first live United
States currency auction event of 2019 and it promises to be a great sale. This
exceptional presentation will be held over two evenings, Thursday, February 28
and Friday, March 1. Additionally, there will be an Internet Only session to be
held Wednesday, March 6, beginning at 9 am Pacific Time.
Our
Thursday night session will feature National Banknotes, including rare large
size offerings from Fairbanks, Territory of Alaska and Clifton, Arizona.
Thursday night will also showcase a nice offering of New Hampshire Nationals.
Friday
night’s session features wonderful notes from diverse genres. Obsolete
specialists will be wowed by an unprecedented offering of rare uncut obsolete
banknote sheets from Illinois, including a number of never before seen notes.
Also among the obsolete currency will be found an 1861 $500 Virginia Treasury
Note (just the third example known) that will impress even the most advanced
Southern States collectors.
The
Green Valley Collection is a decades old Southern States and Confederate
currency collection that comprises a well curated CSA type collection,
including wonderful T-1 and T-2 Montgomery notes. In addition, Confederate
collectors will want to focus on the Wealth of the South Collection, which
features some pleasing Southern Bank Note Company types, as well as rare CSA
varieties.
Small
size currency is well represented, most notably by the Stradivarius Collection
that brings to the auction block five high end Gem $500 Federal Reserve Notes.
Small size enthusiasts will also be thrilled by a Choice Uncirculated 1934 $10,000
FRN from Boston and a Gem Uncirculated 1928 $1000 Gold Certificate.
Countless
other great notes can be found within the pages of this catalog (download it
for free by clicking this link). So please, sit back and peruse the many fine
offerings. We look forward to seeing you in Baltimore.
Enjoy
the paper,
