Our January 2019 New York International Numismatic
Convention Sale will feature an exceptional volume of collector worthy material.
Here we highlight two Rwanda-Burundi high denomination notes that are the
finest graded by PMG of their issued types. Rwanda-Burundi Pick 6, the 500
Francs Rhino is offered in a 65EPQ holder, while the Pick 7, 1000 Francs Zebra is
certified as 64EPQ.
The 500 Francs Rhino displays the 1961 printed date. It’s a
note that is extremely rare in issued form graded finer than VF, and virtually
impossible to find with an EPQ designation. Out of six total issued pieces
certified by PMG, this grades the finest, and is the only note at any PMG grade
level with an EPQ designation. An AU58 is the next finest on their population
report. The offered note has extremely vibrant color and excellent centering;
it looks like it just came off the press. This note will pair nicely with the
1000 Francs Zebra we are also offering.
The 1000 Francs note is seldom available in any state and
when found is also typically in Very Fine or worse condition. This astounding
64EPQ is the finest issued example graded by PMG of the five issued pieces that
have been certified. This note is the largest denomination of the sought after
Animal Series printed for Rwanda, Burundi (with Burundi overprint on face), and
Rwanda-Burundi. The Zebra vignette is seen at right with intricate colorful
lathe work adorning the empty space of the note. The centering is exceptional as
these pieces are typically skewed left to right or top to bottom.
These treasures will be available in our January 11-12
