The World
Currency Department of Stack’s Bowers Galleries is proud to announce our
offering of a scarce Qatar Proof group in lot 30220 of our Official
Auction of the 2018 ANA World’s Fair of Money, held at the Pennsylvania
Convention Center at 1101 Arch Street in Philadelphia.
For the
cataloging of this rare Archival Collection, created for his highness Sheikh
Khalifa Bin Hamad Al-Thani, we are using the description as it’s written in the
PCGS booklet that is included with this spectacular group.
“Half
a century after establishing the monetary history of the State of Qatar and the
independent State of Qatar, and the separation of Qatar and Dubai Monetary
Council, his highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Hamad Al-Thani has ordered that the
Qatari currency be given a new name. Several names were nominated to his
highness. The names are as follows : Qatar Monetary Council, Qatar Monetary
Authority, and Qatar Monetary Agency.
Here we
have found this original archival collection, the only existing evidence. This
collection consists of seven papers with PCGS and an Authenticity Certificate
of the proofs name and category (of State of Qatar currency).
As his
highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Hamad Al-Thani ordered, the first private set of
the nominated names and categories were printed. Those included the main
picture of the State of Qatar currency in 1973, where one of those proofs has
been documented in English that it was especially for his highness Sheikh
Khalifa Bin Hamad Al-Thani, the prince of the State of Qatar, and dated in
1973-2-22. Above this documentation, there is a beautiful and marvelous sketch
of the palace of Sheikh Abdullah Bin Qasem Al-Thani, with amazing attention to
detail. “
In total, there are seven archival pieces in this lot comprising
the aforementioned set. We have all the images of the group online, including
the provided booklet for your convenience.
