The Stack’s Bowers Galleries May 2021 Collectors Choice Currency Auction is now online and open for bidding. One of the highlights of this month’s auction is a Fr.1173a 1922 $10 Gold Certificate from the Fort Knox Gold Reserve Collection. PCGS has graded the note About New 53PPQ and it features a specialized gold label for the collection, personally autographed by the 38th director of the United States Mint, Edmund C. Moy.
This well margined and lightly handled $10 gold note displays the smaller format serial numbers as denoted by the "a" designation of the catalog number. Michael Hillegas, who served as the first Treasurer of the United States, is seen on the face at center. Vibrant golden overprint inks are featured on the face while the brilliant orange printed back presents striking color.
The note is offered in lot 90080 of the May 2021 CCO auction and carries an estimate of $1,000-$1,500. Live bidding for the U.S. Currency portion of the auction begins on Wednesday May 19 at 9:00 AM PT.
