In our January 2018 New
York International Sale on January 12, at the Grand Hyatt in New York City, we
will be offering a very special Puerto Rico 1896 5 Pesos Note in Lot 30390.
The note is from the
Banco Espanol de Puerto Rico, and is printed by the American Bank Note Company.
Series D. This piece is one of the very few available in issued form for the
series and will certainly grab the attention of collectors. It is the first we
have offered in many years and displays attractive ink tones and detail for the
grade. This is the finest graded example on the PMG population report.
Queen Regent Maria
Cristina is pictured at left and an allegorical child is pictured at right.
This note was printed with a few different dates, and those dated November 3rd,
1896 are among the tougher notes to find. It is much more common to find the
note with a “MAYAGUEZ” stamp at center, and exponentially more
difficult to find it without a stamp or cancellation such as on this intact
piece. PMG discloses staple holes in the comments section, which are common for
the type and often seen on ABNC0. issued notes of that era.
For more questions

for our January NYINC sale, but are currently collecting World Paper
Consignments for our April Hong Kong, and May Collectors Choice Sales.
