June Auction Features Chile 1885a 1 Peso Remainder Sheet of Three Notes

Our June World Paper Money CCO Auction is posted to our website for viewing and bidding. We are offering over 900 lots, with a wide range of countries and rarities. Lot 70117 offers a P-S176r1 Remainder Sheet of three 1885 1 Peso notes from El Banco de Concepcion in PMG Choice About Uncirculated 58 EPQ.

This uncut trio of remainders comes from an elusive issuer. The notes feature yellow, dark gold and green ink, while the vignettes and border design are in jet black ink. Ornate lathe work and heavy geometric designs stand out, typical of American Bank Note Company notes of the era. At left is an allegorical woman next to a glove and instruments representing Science. At right is a portrait of Anibal Pinto. The reverse of the notes depicts a native at center, with “Republica de Chile” at top and the bank name across the center. This would make an excellent pairing with the 20 Peso remainder trio from the same issuer we are offering in lot 70118. Both lots note: PMG Pop 1/No Others Graded.
